The organizers of the audio launch function of Saroja were in for some uneasy moments when the director-turned-actor Ameer took the mike to address the gathering. Speaking at the function, he posed a question to ace music director A R Rahman, who incidentally was not present at the venue, as to why he prefers commercial films and avoided composing music for emotion-oriented films. He also wanted to know why A R Rahman refused to consider budding directors like him but readily agrees to compose music for experienced directors like Bharathiraja & Balachander. It is also to be noted that during the Sakarakatti audio launch, Ameer expressed his desire to meet Rahman personally in the near future.
Very funny isn’t it? A R Rahman refusing to score music for budding directors??
What’s wrong with you, Mr. Ameer?
What’s wrong with you, Mr. Ameer?
I bet he knows the least about the movies for which ARR has scored music for. It would be a very long post if I go about listing his entire discography. And, who knows, you may also lose interest in reading this post. So, I choose to list those movies for which ARR has scored music over the last 4 years.
2005:
2005:
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero
Mangal Pandey: The Rising
Anbe Aaruyire
Water (Rahman’s been with Deepa ever since Fire, her first movie)
2006:
Rang De Basanti (Rakeysh Mehra was hardly a film old as a director when he started RDB)
Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (Director Krishna’s debut project)
Rang De Basanti (Rakeysh Mehra was hardly a film old as a director when he started RDB)
Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (Director Krishna’s debut project)
Varalaru - The History of the Godfather
2007:
Guru
Provoked
Guru
Provoked
Sivaji: The Boss (He has been with Shankar ever since Gentleman)
Azhagiya Thamizh Magan (Director Bharathan’s first movie as a director)
2008:
Jodhaa Akbar (He has been with Ashutosh ever since Lagaan which was only the latter’s third movie)
Jodhaa Akbar (He has been with Ashutosh ever since Lagaan which was only the latter’s third movie)
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (Abbas Tyrewala’s debut project as a director)
ADA: A Way of Life
Sakkarakatti (Director Kala Prabhu is yet another debutant)
Gajni (Murugadoss is hardly 3 films old. He debuts in hindi with Gajni)
To sum up, since 2005, ARR has done close to 17 movies (a few may have been missed out).
Out of these, 5 movies were done for people with whom he has been for a very long time, 4 were for directors less than 5 movies old and the rest have been for rookie directors.
From the list and figures above, it is pretty evident that a majority of ARR’s projects have been only with ‘BUDDING’ directors, though there are a few stalwarts like the Shankars and the Manirathnams. But again ARR has been with them for years together now. Its hightime the creator of ‘Paruthiveeran’ realizes this and makes an attempt talks a little more wisely if at all he meets up with Rahman, else he would only return with embarrassment.
